Round 9: Mamedyarov-Giri 1-0, with counterplay, 14...Qxb2= was better, Shakhriyar had a small advantage in the ending, grabbed a pawn and won. Karjakin-Caruana 1/2, the Spanish Game, the endgame was drawish. Harikrishna-Safarli 0-1. Hou-Mamedov 0-1.
Round 8: Caruana-Mamedyarov 0-1, 29.Ree3 was a mistake, Shakhriyar won the queen endgame. Giri-Hou 1/2, Anish had an advantage, but Yifan defended well, a draw.
Round 7: Caruana-Giri 1/2, Fabiano could have won with 35.Qf7. Mamedyarov-Safarli 1-0. Eljanov-Hou 1-0.
Round 6: Safarli-Caruana 1/2, Fabiano had an extra pawn. Giri-Eljanov 1/2. Hou-Harikrishna 1/2, a draw by perpetual check.
Round 5: Caruana-Radjabov 1-0, Fabiano had a strong attack on the kingside. Safarli-Giri 0-1, Anish outplayed the rival in the complicated ending. Karjakin-Hou 1-0, 25...d3! was better, with a small edge to Black. Harikrishna-Eljanov 1-0, 26...Nd6= was better, then 'queen + two pawns' vs 'two rooks'.
Round 4: Mamedov-Caruana 0-1, 28.b4= and 29.Rc1 were better. Giri-Harikrishna 1-0, Anish sacrificed a pawn, attacked with 24.e6 and quickly won after 24...Qxd4?. Hou-Mamedyarov 1/2. A draw by perpetual check.
Round 3: Caruana-Hou 1-0, Fabiano had a small edge and after 27...h5? got a strong attack with 28.Qg6. Karjakin-Harikrishna 1-0, Pentala made a mistake, 12...h6?, and Sergey gained a big advantage with 13.Bxh6, won the endgame '2 rooks + 3 pawns' vs 'rook + bishop + knight'. Mamedyarov-Eljanov 1-0. Shakhriyar outplayed the rival in the ending.
Round 2: Giri-Karjakin 1-0. Sergey made a mistake, 34...Rhe8?, and Anish obtained a big advantage with 35.f5, grabbed the queen and pawns for two rooks, then won the exchange and the game. Harikrishna-Mamedyarov 1-0, Pentala had the better endgame. Eljanov-Caruana 0-1, 36.Kc2? was an error, 36.Rc2= was better, Fabiano won with 38...Qf3.
