The World Seniors Championship 2005 took place in Lignano Sabbiadoro 27th September - 10th October.
1-2. Spassov Liuben; Jansa Vlastimil - 8.5/11; 3-8. Vasiukov Evgeni; Chernikov Oleg; Karasev Vladimir; Jakobsen Ole; Arkhangelsky Boris; Malmdin Nils-Ake - 8.

The World Chess Championship Tournament 2005 took place in San Luis (Argentina) 27 September 16 October. Veselin Topalov is the new World Champion.
Final standings
1. Topalov - 10; 2. Anand - 8.5; 3. Svidler - 8.5; 4. Morozevich - 7; 5. Leko - 6.5; 6. Kasimdzhanov - 5.5; 7. Adams - 5.5; 8. Polgar - 4.5.
Anand took second place thanks to the greater number of wins, Anand had five wins, Svidler had four.
