The Gibraltar Chess Congress 2003 took place 28th January - 6th February. 10 rounds, 58 players.
1-2. Short, Kotronias - 7.5; 3-4. Palac, Shaw - 7; etc.

The Kasparov vs Deep Junior match 2003 took place in New York (USA) January (26, 28, 30) - February (2, 5, 7). Garry Kasparov - Deep Junior 3-3.
6. Deep Junior - Garry Kasparov 1/2. Sicilian. Garry obtained some initiative.
5. Garry Kasparov - Deep Junior 1/2. Nimzo-Indian. Junior sacrificed a bishop... Perpetual check. Interesting is 16.g3.
4. Deep Junior - Garry Kasparov 1/2. Sicilian. Junior grabbed only a pawn.
3. Garry Kasparov - Deep Junior 0-1. Semi-Slav. Garry could make a draw with 32.Ng6+. Also interesting is 14.Bxe4 with an advantage to White.
2. Deep Junior - Garry Kasparov 1/2. Sicilian. Garry had a good compensation for the sacrificed exchange. Interesting is 25...f4 with powerful initiative.
1. Garry Kasparov - Deep Junior 1-0. Semi-Slav. Garry had an edge in the opening (13.d5 is interesting novelty), then Junior gave the exchange as a present.

The 10th and 11th rounds of the Bundesliga 2002-2003 took place in Germany February 8th-9th 2003. Round 10: Porz - Luebeck 3-5 (Khalifman lost to Grischuk, Van Wely lost to Shirov, Vaganian lost to Fressinet, Hansen beat Speelman). 1. Luebeck - 22.
