A rare continuation. The French Defence, the La Bourdonnais Variation. Alexander McDonnell and Louis Charles Mahe De La Bourdonnais played this line in 1830s.

In the game Stripunsky, Alexander - Nakamura, Hikaru, USA-ch, Saint Louis 2010, Black obtained counterplay after 7...d4 8. Bd3 Qb6 9. Qe2 Nfe7 10. Be4 Nd5 11. g3 Bd7 12. c4 Ndb4 13. d3 Nxc2+ 14. Qxc2 f5 15. exf6 gxf6.
