Round 9: Anand-Giri 1/2, a quick draw. Adams-Caruana 1/2, the Spanish, all draws! Aronian - Vachier-Lagrave 1/2, the English, with counterchances in the endgame. Carlsen-Grischuk 1-0, the Sicilian, Magnus had a development advantage, but then Alexander counterattacked with 29...Qh4 and could have won with 30...Rxg4!, but made mistakes and lost. Nakamura-Topalov 1/2, the Spanish Berlin.

Round 8: Giri-Nakamura 1-0, the Reti Opening, Anish outplayed the rival in the middlegame. Topalov-Carlsen 1/2, the Semi-Tarrasch Defence, Magnus had a slight advantage in the endgame.
