The winners of the chess tournament in Gorky 1938 - the future world chess champion Vasily Smyslov and Shneideman. I wrote about these numbers of the chess newspaper in my article The review 4 numbers of the newspaper "64" for SEPTEMBER, 1938 from 5,
15, 20, September 24, numbers of 49, 51-53 in 2000. The chess games are Myasoyedov-Ufimtsev, Khavin-Golovko and Shneideman-Sorokin.
"From the calendar of tournaments": Mikhail Botvinnik of Leningrad is training before the Amsterdam AVRO tournament (with a barbell), also the young Borok of Minsk, Isaac Boleslavsky of Dneprodzerzhinsk in Kiev, collective farmers, kolkhozniks playing chess in Tashkent etc.
The games are Ragozin-Ryumin, Kan-Ryumin, Kazakevich-Khavin, Kan-Ragozin. But the photo from Kiev: the participants of the Women's Ukrainian SSR Chess Championship.
