The FIDE World Chess Grand Prix 2017 Sharjah tournament took place in the United Arab Emirates 18th-27th February. Free Day 23rd February. Swiss, 9 rounds, 18 players.
1-3. Alexander Grischuk, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov - 5.5 out of 9 scores, 4-8. Ding Liren, Michael Adams, Dmitri Jakovenko, Hikaru Nakamura, Ian Nepomniachtchi - 5, 9-12. Richard Rapport, Pavel Eljanov, Li Chao, Francisco Vallejo Pons - 4.5, 13-14. Levon Aronian, Hou Yifan - 4, 15-17. Salem Saleh, Jon Ludvig Hammer, Evgeny Tomashevsky - 3.5, 18. Round 9: Mamedyarov beat Hou Yifan in the Nimzo-Indian Defence 4.f3. Eljanov beat Salem in the Sicilian Defence. Ding Liren sacrificed the exchange and beat Aronian in the Catalan Opening.

Round 8: Grischuk beat Mamedyarov in the rook endgame. Hammer lost to Eljanov in the Queen's Indian Defence. Hou Yifan drew vs Rapport in the Caro-Kann Defence.

Round 5: Riazantsev lost to Jakovenko in 19 moves. Adams beat Hammer in the endgame. Grischuk outplayed Eljanov in the ending. Hou Yifan drew vs Salem in the Ragozin Defence.
