The All-Soviet First Category Tournaments took place in Gorky (now and before - Nizhny Novgorod) in August 1938. 2nd group:
1-3. Smyslov; Stolberg; Ufimtsev - 10 from 13 scores; etc.

Kurbanovsky was the winner of the Vologda Championship 1938.
